    Tom..
    just checking but..
you said shut down tinyg then issued the avrdude command.. Tinyg needs to be ON and in bootloader “mode”.. (basically the first 3 seconds after powered on or the rest button is pressed for it to work..
    see step 3 here..

and here is the hex file to use.. just incase https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/9726802/TinyG/tinyg.hex

Yes.. Those functions are modal and yes you should issue a “G0 Z0”
Thats not something thats tinyg specific.. Thats part of the gcode specifications..
This site/wiki shouldn’t have to teach you how to write/use GCode properly only how to use their products/software.

Not saying that you shouldn’t spend time attempting to find bugs, and I’m sure Riley/Alden appreciate any help they can get etc..
    BUT..
I said… “It hurts when I touch my eye”..
My mom said.. “Then don’t touch your eye..

Maybe you should just use the e-stop button or find another way to stop the machine mid cycle instead of repeatedly breaking bits over and over again.

OR take a few days off and send your board back to Synthetos and let them upgrade your firmware.. I’m sure they would be happy to do that for you since you have repeatedly complained about not being able to do so..
Then you can run tgfx or whatever you want and not have to mess with coolterm that is obviously causing you problems over and over again..

and it does not return to the zero origin, it just stops above the last tool move.

Does your G-code have coding that “should” return to origin?

I was playing around with openpnp easily over a year ago and they had gotten far enough that it could be used.. They were just working on the vision integration at that time.. I’d hope it would be near completion now but haven’t checked back with it in a while..

Did you use the tinyg post included with hsmexpress..?
I’m going to be using Inventor and hsmxpress very shortly on my new personal DIY machine.
I’ve been using Inventor/HSM with a Haas VF2 and its worked flawlessly so far.

You might have a look at the responses in this old post

except that thread is open without a response from Alden/Riley on how to proceed without having to cobble up a relay driver…

    Did you see this
    https://www.synthetos.com/topics/tgfx-latest-builds/
click on the dropbox link in the first post.
It was a while ago but I don’t remember any problems installing from one of the files there..
I just used the exe I think for my windows machine and it was “simple”.

I do agree though.. Its like a never ending beta where you need to hunt around for the information you need and then there seems to always be something that gets in your way and ruins the fun that we should be having. I can’t get my machine to run without it missing steps every once and a while which causes a serious “oops” and trashes what I’m doing. I set my machine to the side a few months ago after being fed up in hopes that a few more firmware versions might clear up the issues I’ve had.. I need to get back into it very shortly here though and I’m scared I’m just going to disappointed again.

Wordpress is a CMS (content management system). Its not the forum.
You add “plugins” to wordpress to extend its functionality.
This site seems to be using BBPress for the forum plugin and it seems there is no preview functionality build into BBpress.

TinyG (as programmed) is not intended to be a standalone device.. it requires a computer or tablet or other micro board sending movements via gcode/json to it. I doubt there is any time/date code at all in it… other than stepper timing,etc..

Id think you could use another micro board (arduino/PI/beagle) with time/date,etc.. code on it and just send the movements to the TinyG board.. Of course you could also drive the 2 axes with the other board too..

    not slop..not normal IMO

Didn’t you already have a post about this and said it only happened with one of the steppers you had and not the others or something?

Power supply to tiny g should just be some stranded 14-16 AWG or so regular wire..

For the steppers shielded wiring is a MUST as well as limit switch wiring if used..
I used some 22AWG x 4 conductor shielded cable with drain wire from homedepot.. (available by the foot in their electrical aisle.. It had a gray pvc insulation..
Grounding is VERY important.. Ground each of the shields/drain wires (typically at the tiny G end ONLY)
