Chris,
Also, when you say missing steps. Is that on G0? or G1’s etc.. If you are doing G0’s and missing steps try setting your:
$XSR
$YSR
$ZSRLower… Specifically the axis that is missint steps.

RileyKeymasterDid it work? Was it the thermal shutdown?

Hey there. Again sorry to hear your issues. Alden and I have been thinking for some time now about selling a 328p uC with grbl pre-loaded. I can expedite this if you are interested. Cost will be around $6.00 (plus shipping) for a pre-loaded Atmega328p with grbl. Something akin to sparkfun’s Arduino 328p pre-loaded bootloader.

If you want to go this route let me know and I will create a new product in the store. Also, if you want to send me your board I will program it for you for the cost of shipping.
We truly do not like to hear that our customers are having issues using grblShield (even if its not really the shield that is the issue :).
Let us know what you would like to do. GrblShield is truly meant to be able to be plugged in and just “work” so lets get that going.

RileyKeymasterChris,
Do me a favor. I need you to issue a $$ command and capture the response to a txt file. Paste that txt file into here. We need to verify that your settings. You can set something and screw up your day 🙂 I know I have before.

RileyKeymasterYah I have been meaning to ask if you upgraded your lead screws? Alden and I have X3 mills.. (his is a bit higher end than mine.. DRO and digital rpm stuff). We are in the market to convert our mills too. However so much to do so little time!
RileyKeymasterThe python script that I have been working on is available here: https://github.com/ril3y/ConsoleLoader
install git (google git download)
git clone https://github.com/ril3y/ConsoleLoader
once its done..cd ConsoleLoader
python Consoleloader.pyThen follow the instructions on screen.. NOTE YOU NEED PYSERIAL.
However its not fully tested. I have been without power from Irene for about 4 days now. I am planning on testing some tonight. I do know that Windows will not work right now with it. Some issue with the pySerial module.
This code will be changing frequently. Your best bet is to do a git pull each day until its in a stable state. Open issues on the github page if found.
Thanks,
ril3yRileyKeymasterhaha ! OK that works too. Still think your power supply is on the low side. Read alden’s follow up post here:

RileyKeymasterDepending on your motor I would assume that you need a bigger power supply. A good test is just to get a PC power supply and use the 12v (yellow normally) to power the board. This will give MUCH more current then 700mah. Try turning the pot all the way to the left then issue a g0x10000 or something similar and turn the pot up until it moves. Let me know if this works out for ya.

RileyKeymasterThese TI chips are pretty nice. And with all the extra copper that alden added to the PCB… It really makes the board pretty tough.
Riley
RileyKeymasterkf2qd, My thoughts exactly.
Riley
RileyKeymasterI looked at it briefly. I have not really tried however. If you do it get to work please let us know. Of perhaps a entry in the wiki?
Thanks,
RileyKeymasterI agree. We are working out how to do this now.
ril3y
RileyKeymasterCheck your emails… We will send a few out.
RileyKeymasterI know that alden and I have not. Perhaps other grbl users have? However I doubt it.
