>Tom, when you said you hit the cancel button
After you use send text file from the connection menu, CoolTerm displays a progress dialog which shows how much of the file has been sent. That dialog has a “cancel” button in the lower right.
Not the disconnect button. I never use the disconnect button; I have CoolTerm set to connect/disconnect automatically.
Most of the time, the machine runs until the buffer is empty. And it’s done. I can issued gocde manually or send another file, no problem. But one time in ten, something goes wrong and the machine erupts. Sometimes nothing displays in the CoolTerm window. Other times it will show five or six lines of gcode. The problem is it is intermittent.
This is CoolTerm windows, 1.4.3. XON is on.

tomking505MemberThere are two searches. One in the absolute far upper right. It seems to search all of Synthetos.com.
There is also one on the home page to the support forum: https://www.synthetos.com/forum/ It appears to be specific to the support forum.
Funny. I have trouble with UL, but LINK works for me, as above. 😐 The problems with WordPress are frustrating, because you only get five minutes to figure out what went wrong with the formatting of your message before editing is disabled.

tomking505MemberThank you, Psyko and Alden, for your help.
What has me puzzled is the Y0 move. There aren’t any in the gcode. It goes to a coordinate that is not in my gcode, which is what causes the crash.
Maybe the command “X88 Y99” is halted midway through to give “X88 Y9”? I don’t have anything that will sniff the com port to see.
I would gladly use TGfx, but I cannot update my firmware to something compatible with TGfx.
tomking505MemberThere is nothing in your post that is applicable. You asked for:
>What are you using to send gcode files? CoolTerm
>Are you setting flow control? Yes
>Since I think you are using coolterm to send files, did you follow this?
Yes
>What gcode files are you sending?
Not specific to any one set of gcode.
>What firmware build number are you running?
As I have posted elsewhere, 380.06 and 380.08. You told me I should upgrade the firmware, but multiple posts about AVRdude not working have not been answered.
>I had a similar problem with a PCB mill running a cheap Chinese spindle.
This happens occasionally when I send a file using CoolTerm, but then press cancel. As I have already explained in other posts, if I press “cancel”, and wait for all the commands in the buffer to stop, when I enter a new command (or just return) in the terminal window, TinyG does something bizarre, like launching the spindle in some random direction. This is not spindle noise.
So the post you directed me to does not address this problem, which I have explained in more detail in other posts.

tomking505MemberCoolTerm is set according to this page:
https://github.com/synthetos/TinyG/wiki/TinyG-Sending-Files-with-CoolTerm
XON is turned on in CoolTerm and in TinyG.
tomking505MemberIt happened again just now, to a piece I have worked on for seven hours.
I sent the gcode below to TinyG via CoolTerm. Halfway through, I hit the cancel button, because I wanted to restart. After the buffer cleared, the machine came to a halt.
I pressed the return key. The machine bolted in the Y direction, putting a scar in the workpiece and breaking the bit.
If the buffer wasn’t clear, why did the machine stop? If it was clear, why the Y0 command?
Below is the gcode, and below that are the settings.

tomking505MemberAmen, brother. Well said.
The versioning is confusing. Particularly which TGfx works with which firmware.
All the different venues are confusing.
This forum is clunky. Why limit editing to 5 minutes?
And I’m not too crazy about GitHub. The repeated messages necessary to explain exactly how to download a hex file should be unneccesary. Maybe zip the file so it arrives intact?

http://www.flickr.com/photos/tommy_oh/12106742793/ CamBam produced this.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/tommy_oh/12106741883/ TinyG did this.
The img html on this page isn’t working.

tomking505MemberThank you for the response. I will look into the issues you raised.
On the subject of motor noise, examine the following images. Both CamBam and NC Corrector interpret my gcode as an ordinary gear. On the other hand, notice that TinyG adds a 30 mm circle that is not in the gcode. And it did this eight times in the exact same spot, in 1 mm increments. It is hard to believe that motor noise could be that specific.
tomking505MemberRead this very slowly: I *already* sent you a piece of code that clunks in the same place, over and over. So clearly it’s not line noise, is it?
> I have replied to you in previous a previous post
After all the problems I’ve had, you made ONE damn reply? And when I didn’t notice it among the sea of complaints, it was just too much trouble for you to follow up?
I have *already* told you what firmware I’m running. You said I should update it, but when I tried, there were still more problems. Which I *already* documented. So it shouldn’t be a surprise I am still running the same firmware.
I’ve *already* provided several samples of code.
It’s not like there are thousands of messages on this board. Is it too much trouble to answer my posts, instead of just noticing a trend?
And as I have *already* said, the same code sometimes runs perfectly well, and other times does not.
I am running a completely different power supply on my spindle.
You are beginning to see a trend? Really? So am I. I already did most of what you asked, and it has done me no good. Each time I write a message here which you ignore. I have a pile of wasted materials worth more than the three boards I bought from you. Yes, I see a trend.
Don’t you get it? I have work to do, and for months your “industrial grade” solution has wasted my time and money.
You don’t like me complaining? How about, as I *already* said, you get one working firmware running with one working version of TGfx. Then write a clear message that says exactly which version works with what, with the exact location of the files.
I am tired of being your mind-reading beta tester.
tomking505MemberYes, it certainly does sound familiar. Thanks, cmcgrath5035.
I will have a closer look.
Tom
tomking505Member>We are not getting rich off this, and it’s not our regular jobs.
Hold it a second.
Your site says very prominently that this is
- “Affordable INDUSTRIAL GRADE Motion Control.”
Industrial grade means I can do meaningful work without destroying something. Industrial grade means fully-functional. You can’t claim TinyG is “industrial grade” and also that it’s okay it doesn’t work because it’s your hobby.
I’d be sympathetic if you didn’t seem to be working on other projects while this one is still broken. If you are going to take money for this project, there should be ONE DAMN SETUP that works. Working firmware. A functional bootloader. Complete basic documentation.
I’d be more thrilled to hear about your arduino-based TinyG, if the original TinyG worked correctly. It seems to me, the guy with three of your boards and a pile of stuff they destroyed, that you are farting around with new stuff while the people who already PAID YOU are dead by the side of the road.

tomking505MemberI tried dozens of times to hit control-c before the screen scrolled away. I even tried shooting a video at 120 FPS, and slowing it down, but nothing. Finally, I got this:
Writing | ################################################## | 100% 32.81s avrdude: 204800 bytes of flash written avrdude: verifying flash memory against tinyg.hex: avrdude: load data flash data from input file tinyg.hex: avrdude: input file tinyg.hex auto detected as raw binary avrdude: input file tinyg.hex contains 204800 bytes avrdude: reading on-chip flash data: Reading | | 0% 0.00savrdude: error: programmer did not respond to command: set addr
What is the reason I can’t flash my TinyG?
tomking505MemberHere is the AVRdude command I issue:
C:\Program Files (x86)\AVRDude>avrdude -p x192a3 -c avr109 -b 115200 -P COM7 -U flash:w:tinyg.hex
After that is how AVRdude responds, until I hit control-c:
Connecting to programmer: . Found programmer: Id = "XBoot++"; type = S Software Version = 1.7; No Hardware Version given. Programmer supports auto addr increment. Programmer supports buffered memory access with buffersize=512 bytes. Programmer supports the following devices: Device code: 0x7b
If I don’t hit control-c, then everything sails off the screen with thousands of
***failed; ***failed; ***failed; ***failed; ***failed; ***failed; ***failed; ***failed;
As I said on another message to which no one responded, I can’t redirect the debug output, and the debug switch produces a zero length file. I seem to be following the AVRdude instructions, such as they are, at this link.
