Most folks have had issues with the Windows version of tinyGUpdater, but at the same time most windows users of Chilipeppr SPJS based updater report success.
What is puzzling is that both tinyGUpdater and CP-SPJS use a call into the same avrdude code,
There is a bug crawling around in there somewhere
The method you propose was used by tgFX, IIRC.
Unfortunately, there were situations where the “key-unpress” and ! command were missed (comms issues), resulting in what you would expect – runaway gantry, oops, bang.
Did you consider implementing step 3 (above) as part as step 4, by issuing a
G1 (move to max distance in desired direction) F(1/10 of the Vmax in that direction) ?
That would avoid EEPRROM writes.
Not clear if you would need to reset the F speed (step 7)after canceling the jog, as long as the next jog set it’s desired speed.
