DO you want me to post the file or cut it?

Must be an angle illusion…it is a single pass of the same width bit…anyway, here is the file

Your last paragraph hits the mark! If you are going to crash because of lost steps, soft limits are not going to do any good…I wanted to set them up to prevent fat fingering! I cannot count the times that I have had the jog set to ten inches (for the X or Y), then jogged the Z before changin it to something smller! or been at the far side of the machine and jogged right instead of left!

    Thanks again!

Thanks for your input Carl…with the jerk settings as high as you recommended, it seems like it is tearing the machine apart, that is why I keep lowering them! 1mm seems perfect as I can here all of the switches “click” on the initial 5mm move…never had one fail to clear…

I was looking thru the touchplate code, I don’t know java, but I used to be pretty good with VB and C++, so some java is familiar, I found where he is actually sending the commands, and I already thought that if the touch plate turned off soft limits and back on when finished that would work pretty slick…I do not understand the fork or really any of the open source stuff so I will have to learn…if you fork something public like that, how does it affect only your own machine?!? Anyhow, lots to learn and thanks again…

I hope you get a chance to look at my parameters, as there is still an issue with homing and the touch plate…after a fresh power up of te TinyG, if I use the touch plate, it works as it should, if I home the machine, then run the touch plate, the Z axis runs up (backwards) for a short distance and then stops as if it hit the touch plate, if I run the touch plate again, it works correctly (runs down until touching the plate, then setting the Z to zero)…this is repeatable and happens the same way every time…after the second time, it will work as it supposed to until the next power reset…maybe the touch plate is not compatible with homing?!?

Maybe soft limits ARE NOT compatible with touch plate?!? I thought though, that Chillippr was written specifically for the TinyG? Why offer something that does not work? Maybe John L will chime in…

You may be on to something Riley…I bought NC switches because I read everywhere that NC was the way to go to prevent false trips from noise…I guess TG doesn’t like the fact that the touch plate is NO…

There was a section in the wiki that pointed to an article on using the touch plate but it was empty…If I keep on the way I am going I’ll be an expert!

I guess I have to order new switches, as mine are NC only…

Carl, the touch plate is 6.5, but the tool moves up 2 more mm for clearance…for a total of 8.5mm, also, I meant LOWERING the z 1.9!

Riley to the rescue!!!! Just as I was about to smash the controller into tiny pieces (haha), Riley sent me an email and gave me his cell phone number! We tried a few things to no avail, but he is shipping me out a new controller Monday morning! I have to say, this is the best customer service I have ever dealt with, in depth troubleshooting on a Saturday night!! I will send him my controller for some hard core diagnostics..
    Stay tuned!

    Thanks Riley and Carl!

Well, I am so frustrated I cannot see straight! Spent 6 hours today trying to get limits to work. Here is the scenario, and it is repeatable (until the last problem)
From a fresh power on, with limits on $sl=1, and the new settings you mentioned (file attached) the machine home’s as it should. If I use the touch plate in chilipeppr (G38.2 Z-20 F50), the TinyG goes imeadiately into alarm…the wiki describes the error messages, but does not list the command to return the error message! $stat just reports “Alarm”…messed with this for several hours, checked all of my settings (I cannot find anything wrong)…Now, if I turn soft limits off, the machines homes as expected, then I jog the z down closer to the table 25mm or so, but when I try to use the touchplate (g38.2 Z-20 F50) the Z goes the wrong way and stops after a few mm…If I run it again, it goes the right way and works as it should. So I gave up on using limits, reset everything and was attempting to run a job that I ran before, then ChiliPeppr went berserk (most of the text on the screen turned to machine code, and now the Spindle direction is flashing and no matter WHAT I try, I cannot make it stop or communicate with it (power off, unplug USB, reset, etc…)

I am at the end of my rope!
    Please advise

Thanks for your help, I will make the recommended changes…I used cool term to set the TinyG up, I thought I followed the wikis but may have missed something. How do you capture a readable text file from coolterm? Every time I try to capture, it makes the file all in lines instead of each row per parameter? I think I used JCNC to capture the first on in a nice two column format.

Grabbed two dumps for you, fresh from startup, then after homed…I see that $sl is off, maybe that is my issue, dont know what you mean by homing the Z wrong, I followed the wiki to a T, I have the limit wired to max as instructed, all three axis home properly.

Using Windows7 and chrome to run Chilippr…the dumps attached came striaght out of coolterm…
