Is there any update to my situation?
I went ahead and bought -another- relay directly from Synthetos.. the idea is that THAT exact one that they are selling should work with TinyG.. but then again, the other 4 that I have should work as well..
For now, I bypass the relay.. but I’d -really- love for my SSR to turn off and on the spindle. That’d save me a lot of manual mucking about.

Just tell me what will work and I’ll buy it.. I bought a few relays.. some just can’t get enough current and others are.. inverted for one reason or the other.
But like I said, I’ll get something rush shipment on ebay if I can get a model number that works.

Are you saying put the spindle high voltage connections of the relay on Normally Closed instead of Normally Open?
I tried that, however.. the obvious problem is that everything turns on by default. When the TinyG controller is off that means BOTH the coolant and the spindle turn on.. which is.. undesirable.

I’m probably missing something.. can you explain that to me again please?
The relay I have is the one above.. I am not sure I can do that given the schematic of the relay that I have.
How would I wire it up, besides the way that I specified up there?

September 21, 2013 at 2:33 am in reply to: Using TinyG with SSR Relays.. Not Turning On Relays? #4554nexeaMemberI now understand why this new 12v 2 channel relay is acting the opposite of the desired result.
Alden, I will make another post to discuss a request for an enhancement to the TinyG firmware and explain it in more detail because this topic was for the original SSR undervoltage problem. I no longer care about those big SSRs but instead now focus on this 2 relay driver here:
Like I said, I will make a new post explaining my logic and formally asking for a new feature.
September 20, 2013 at 11:55 pm in reply to: Using TinyG with SSR Relays.. Not Turning On Relays? #4553nexeaMemberHmm.. when Coolant is ON, there is NO voltage difference between GND and Coolant.. but when OFF, there IS a voltage difference between GND and Coolant.
I think it’s the exact opposite logic.
I am not sure about it.. just adding what I have observed.
Like I said, I am not the best with electronics so any clarification from any user who has got it to work would be appreciated.
September 20, 2013 at 1:30 am in reply to: Using TinyG with SSR Relays.. Not Turning On Relays? #4550nexeaMemberOh sorry Alden, I didn’t know you were actually a admin/employee of Synthetos.. my mistake.
TinyG is awesome btw, I just wish it was turnkey complete.
I’m building my very first cnc machine so I was hoping it was almost plug ‘n play. The JSON stuff goes a long way in my plans for my own machine so that’s why I bought a TinyG. Great stuff!
The lack of software documentation I am used to.. I delve into code.. it’s just the hardware that is.. relatively new to me.
Just let me know when you can.. I am working on other parts of my machine until then.

Synthetos is SELLING the relay (or one very close to it) and saying it’s as easy as hooking it up directly to the Spindle Control Output.

What gives?
September 18, 2013 at 10:18 pm in reply to: Using TinyG with SSR Relays.. Not Turning On Relays? #4541nexeaMemberAlthough.. if I buy one of those.. those seem to support the 120v AC that I need to control the spindle (the spindle is what, around 6 amps @ 120v).
So I don’t need the big SSR I linked to previously?

September 18, 2013 at 1:36 am in reply to: Using TinyG with SSR Relays.. Not Turning On Relays? #4533nexeaMemberI would like to point out that I have TinyG revision v8 board.
