MemberVcarve does a great job of exporting gcode files with post processors just for tinyg. They work great.
The problem I had in dropping a crv file was user error, i.e. accidently grabbing the wrong file and dropping it on there.
I’ve managed to do that same mistake a couple of times, lol. It doesn’t always bork the bootloader, but sometimes it does.
Just glad I’ve got an Atmel programmer. It really is an easy fix if you have that.
MemberSo, After a long hiatus from using my CNC, I came back to using it today.
Somehow, after dropping a Vcarve CRV file on Chilipepper, I managed to Bork my TinyG again. spdir flashing and would not stop. I have no idea how dropping a crv file could cause that, but the gcode window in chilipeppr filled up with garbage and bada bing, spdir would not stop flashing.
I tried to update the firmware with the Chilipeppr firmware update, but no luck. I probably should have tried to use the Synthetos tool to upgrade the firmware, but didn’t.
I had bought an atmel programmer earlier this year when I had this issue, So I went through the steps at https://github.com/synthetos/TinyG/wiki/SpDir-Continues-To-Flash-Error.
Everything on the board looked fine from the instructions, but I went ahead and erased the memories, reflashed the bootloader, then went and used the synthetos firmware upgrade utility to flash the firmware.
Not really sure what borked it, or what fixed it, but I’m back in business and managed to actually make something today!

MemberAnd it happened again, but this time it seems like it might be permanent. I’ve got motor 1 hooked up to the Y and when I try to jog it, I hear a faint noise coming from the motor, but no movement. Keep in mind this was working fine just a couple of days ago. Nothing has changed since it worked, although it’s a balmy 38 degrees fahrenheit in the garage.
I disconnected the motor cables and swapped it over to Motor 4 just to see if it was the stepper or the board, and the stepper worked fine on motor 4.
So, I’m thinking the motor 1 channel must just be borked somehow. I tried changing the amount of current going to the motor up and down using the pot, no difference. Just a faint amount of noise from the motor.
MemberI ran it a bunch yesterday after that incident and it worked perfectly.
I do have a fan mounted under the board, and it was around 38 degrees F in the garage.
I did have the current turned all the way up. The stepper motors I have can use more current than the tinyg can supply so figured I should have them cranked. I’ve turned them all down to about 75% now though.
Going to go work with it some more today, but so far so good!
MemberNever mind. I just let it sit for a while and it came back.
Nothing seemed to have over heated, but its working fine now.

MemberFWIW, I haven’t done this before, but I do have a programmer on order. Unfortunately, it’s being shipped from china, and won’t be here for a little while.
I did read that just any programmer won’t do, as you need one that supports the PDI interface used by the mega.

I can’t imagine it’s a fatal issue, just a road bump. Let me know if you find anything else out. Don’t take it the wrong way, but I’m kind of glad its not just me!

MemberOne of the first things I did when I got it was to upgrade the FW so it would work correctly with Chilipeppr. It went just fine.
This was just so weird. Dropped a file on chilipeppr, all the fields got filled with garbage characters and the tinyg quit working and would not accept the same firmware I had used before.
I’ve got a gshield and some pololu drivers laying around, so will get that going as a backup while I work on getting this tinyg back in operating condition.
November 23, 2015 at 10:30 am in reply to: spdir flashing, verification error content mismatch #8970MemberReally appreciate the help. I should have mentioned that I’m on 64bit. I did copy that hex file and tried up upload that with both the -e and -D paramaters for avrdude. No luck.
I’ll contact Synthetos and see what they have to say. It really is the strangest thing.

I’ve tried both 440.18 and 440.20 .hex files, same results.
spjs 1.86 finds the usb port, but when I try the updated, specifing tinyg v8, and the 440.20 version via the online download, I get an error message saying
“could not find board arduino:avr:tinyg”.Thanks so much for your help!
