Hey – just a note, got a new TinyG wired up and working fine, love it (just a single stepper on the table at the moment ;).

Did have some frustration getting started out of the box – nothing seemed to get the motor to turn, could disable it, enable it, had coil holding current – but a g0x100 would do nothing.

Until I did a reset to factory defaults $defa=1
After that all is well, that was not an obvious setup step 😉

Hmmm, I have never executed a “defa=1” but have doe a lot of parameter checking and modification. I have a tinyG that is acting somewhat flaky, I’ll go try that.

Question for Alden/Riley – When a new FW image is loaded via the bootloader (using avrdude or tgFX or …), does tinyG come alive with “factory defaults”, or does one need to run “defa=1”?

cswiger – BTW, you will soon find there are a lot of varieties of stuff floating around. Usually best to prepend a post with at least:
    – tinyG hardware version (e.g. older, v7, v8)
    – tinyG FW (firmware version) (e.g FW 0.96 build 380.08 or perhaps FW 0.97 build 412.01)
    – How you connect to tinyG (e.g. tgFX [what build?], Coolterm, putty, …)
Answers to even the most seeming simple questions might vary based on this (and other….) info.

not alden/riley but when FW is loaded “factory defaults” come alive..
defa=1 is just a quick way to reset it all back to those defaults when you want to just say screw it and start fresh..
I’d suspect cswiger just had some setting incorrect.. As he has reset them we will never know what the problem is..

After I adjust configs I’ll do a $$ and then copy all the settings to a text file to reference back to later..

    Thanks mcgyvr.
FYI, I have now loaded FW 0.97 412.01.
I am seeing additional parameters in the $$ dump, and am beginning to realize that $$ dumps a managed list of parameters which may, or may not, be ALL the parameters that are lurking about in tinyG and/or get reset by “defa=1”.

If you like playing with parameter lists, take a look at

Ah, no biggie, I’m really, really happy with the tinyg.
Only reason I posted that issue was it was pretty much out of box – think all I changed was $xfr feed rate and $xvm max velocity, and did have the motor on the wrong port at first 😉 after correcting that it acted like $xam was 0 – g0xXX commands didn’t even show up as a change of position on the $sr.

    Anyway, all is well now.
