I have a home built cnc running on a tinyg v8, and are using chillipepper. Have done many projects in the last year, and save for the first few in the “learning curve”, have been happy with the results. Now having said that, we have an issue that just cropped up and cannot for the life of Brian solve it. Doing a fairly simple cut out in a piece of maple, and running a shallow Z step to have clean cuts, we went into alarm and the spindle stopped travelling in mid cut. Seen this before and have always managed to recover and continue with a bit of figuring and head scratching. This last time, after it alarmed and stopped travelling, we cannot get the X or Z axis to zero. At present, X is recording -254.061mm and Z is -25.00mm. We have always questioned chilli with it being a cloud based deal, but have always managed. We were using Firefox in the beginning, but read somewhere Chrome was the better choice so switch and though we had the solution, but apparently not. So we uninstalled Chrome and reinstalled clean, and when we reloaded our program all looked good, but as soon as we powered up the cnc and tinyg, and retarted chrome/chilli, it reverted back to the fantom X and Z axis. Wondering if we have pooched our tinyg and/or is there something I have missed. When I try and zero an axis, gcode G28.3 Z0 is listed and checked as being completed but not…I can jog, I can input new coordinates and everything works…just can’t zero.

Anyone one have an idea, or are we looking to purchase a new board?

What do you mean by “went into alarm” ?
Sounds like it shut down as if a limit switch was hit?
That would cause tinyG to reset and the current coordinate would become the new (zero, zero) after a reset.

I would doubt this is CP/internet related. First reaction would be noise induced false limit switch indication.

    Yes

“Sounds like it shut down as if a limit switch was hit?”

It was mid travel so no limits were close. But the reset did not generate the new zero, zero. The coordinates it stopped at were not replaced with zeros after the reset on the tinyg.

After much poking and prodding, and a few choice idle threats of dismantling and turning it into a rotating baby mobile, I have “solved” the reset issue.

I did a complete erase of my chrome installation on the computer and reloaded it, along with a few other windows updates, and a fresh page launch of CP seems to have resolved the coordinate readings to zeros across the board. After the re-install, I did cut my project without any issues, thankfully. And yes, we have wondered if we were indeed getting noise induced falses.

That is our next step, to ensure wiring and routing for the limits, but we were like kids at Christmas when we got it performing, and now we need to fine tune some more.

Thanks for your reply, and here’s to happy cnc’ing.

Sounds like some good progress; there is nothing like hands on experience.
