Hi – I’ve been able to get the grbl shield up and running without any issues – great work! I’ve been testing with some steppers of unknown specs. I thought they were 12v but I’ve been able to run them at 24v and achieved much higher torque as a result.

Neither the board or the motors get hot but it did get me wondering about the heatsinks I’ve seen mentioned here in the forum. I’m confused about where/how they would be attached. The surface mount chips are so small/nothing to attach to so I’m wondering if I misunderstand what is being referred to @ heatsinks.

My other question: the Red LEDs.
(I’ve seen a ref to Green LEDs but maybe that is a later version of the board? https://www.synthetos.com/topic/grbl-shield-how-to-make-it-running-2/)

Anyway, any command will make all three LEDs light up – even if it is only a cmd for one motor (e.g. g0x1000). With a motor attached, the LED for the motor that is moving will pulse/blink. Is this all on/pulse the expected behavior?

Thanks for the compliment. Some of the grblShields were manufactured with red LEDs, not green. They all light up because grbl enables all axes when any axis moves. This is all normal behavior.
