I’m having a bit of trouble with my grblShield with the Shapeoko mod.  The problem I’m having is that the X axis will only go in one direction.  The other two axes work fine.  In my troubleshooting steps I moved the Y axis motor wires, that’s working in both directions, to the X axis.  Same affect, it will only move in one direction.  After some searching around I found one of your wiki pages to point exactly to my problem (here). After checking all my motor connections and performing the troubleshooting steps above the last line seemed to be my issue:

“All grblshields are tested to make sure all axes work and turn in both directions, but it’s possible that something make have “shaken loose” in transit.”

If my issue is that something has shaken loose, what can I do to find and fix what has shaken loose?

The only other thing I can think of is that the X direction signal is not making it from the Arduino to the shield. It’s the D6 pin on the arduino digital connector. Do you have a pin bent out on the shield? If you have some way to test this line like an oscilloscope or a volt meter that could be checked.

Other than that you have done all the diagnostics we would have done. Perhaps you got a malfunctioning board.  Please contact us at synthetos at gmail dot com for a replacement. Are you in the US or overseas?

One of the pens are bent or got bent at anytime I have been working with it.  I’ll check out pin 6 on the arduino just to see what happens there.  Otherwise I will take you up on your offer.

    I’m in Washington state.

That should have said none of the pens are bent or have gotten bent while I have been working with it. 🙂

Correction – the X direction line is D5, not D6.

I checked D5 on the arduino and all seemed to be in order.  All I have is a multimeter and I have only limited knowledge of what to test for.  Thank you for your help.  I’ll email the address you suggested.
