I am trying to start up a gshield (v5b) for the first time. I cannot get any motion from a motor.

I have reviewed all the the on-line troubleshooting topics for gshield including:

    https://github.com/synthetos/grblShield/wiki/Troubleshooting

I am experienced with motion control in general including stepper motor control.

The blue light on my gshield is on, 24VDC present on motor power input connector. Grbl is running on Arduino and seems to be communicating just fine. Motor leads checked and double checked. Attempts to move X motor with alternate commands of G0X1000 and G0X0 give no motor motion, no LED light changes. I have twiddled the current limit pot – this appears to have no effect. I suspect some there is some requirement for software/config setup that is not documented, such as software enable of an axis or software config of a limit switch input so that gshield does not think it is sitting on a limit switch.

Should the LED near the X motor terminal block (D2) flash when the motor is commanded to move? I see no change when I send a G-code to command motion, but I see flashes when I rotate the motor shaft by hand.

An odd thing – why does gshield header J5 have two “extra” pins that do not mate with Arduino, but hang down and touch components on Arduino. Is this expected?
