I am still trying to wrap my head around this difference between Inches and MM.

I have a 1.8 degree Unipolar stepper motor and for now was going to use a 20 Thread Per Inch rod as the driving mechanism. The trouble is “our non metric standards”.

Looking for the best solution to adapt this to the other system…you know non metric.

So for starters that stepper motor I have would need 200 steps for 1 revolution and the 20 TPI rod advances 0.05 inches per turn.

I was looking at some conversions and the closet I saw was 0.0512inches = 1.3000mm, my thoughts concerning this are the compounding errors, while I won’t be dealing in tolerances that tight, I sure don’t want to add any either.

Any ideas on how I can set this up closer to use SAE Standards.

I believe the number you want is 157.480315 steps / mm. 1 revolution is 200 steps, and a revolution is 0.05″, or 1.27mm. So steps / mm is 200 / 1.27, or 157.48 mm
