Forgive me for the simple question.

I have a really nice aluminum heatsink from a old PC processor I’d like to use in a enclosure with a 100mm fan. I know this likely is overkill but I’ve been bit by lost jobs with the grblshield and heat before building a nice cooling tower for it. I actually lost another job when said cooling tower lost a fan (thanks radio shack quality!)

Anyway what is the best way to mount the heat sink on the back of the board near the copper heat sinks? I have some kapton tape.

The heat sink I salvaged is just about exactly the same size as the board. by about 4 inches deep. It looks really neat.

    Thanks in advance!

What Hardware Version of tinyG do you have?
V8 is the current shipping version.

Wow, Thanks for the fast reply..

It is a V8. Like I said before I know it might be overkill. I just see it as extra insurance! Lol

    Thanks again!

I have a v7 which has, I believe, a bit more open area near the driver devices.
I fabricated an interface from 3/8″sq AL stock, with necessary reliefs to avoid non-ground paths and drilled 4 M5 or M8 holes thru the ground PWB area to fasten the board, thru the interface, to a rather large surplus AMD CPU sink.
I have found no need for fans so far, but seldom run jobs longer than 20 mins.
The heat sink gets a little warm, the driver devices with attached dipsinks get to perhaps 105-110F, not bad at all.

Of course none of this is really sanctioned abuse of the tinyG board, but works for me; YRMV.

I can send some pics end of next week, traveling at the moment.

Here are two pics of what I did with my V7
    heat sink 1
    heat sink 2

The V8 board looks to be more busy in the area I used for connection.

And, as I said, this is non-sanctioned abuse of the tinyG PWB; but the results work very well for me.
