I’ve just completed my first build, a machine specifically for doing 4th axis round work. It’s powered by TinyG and run with Chilipeppr, and I’m using VCarve for design and creating toolpaths. Here’s where I’ve run into a problem though: neither the post processors for TinyG that come packaged with VCarve nor the ones I’ve found via the wiki have the code in them to convert Y axis motion to A axis motion for rotary work. I’m making do by using a different post processor at the moment, but I was wondering if anyone had solved this issue specifically for TinyG.

Your topic is clearly identifiable, perhaps will attract some attention.

It was a little tricky getting things configured in Chilipeppr, but once I did some crazy math and figured out the magic numbers for the rotary axis, it was a piece of cake. Vcarve is great to work with as well, and like I said before, one of the other post processors gives me the Gcode I need to run my machine. I may try hacking together a post processor specifically for TinyG — once I wrap my head around Gcode a bit more. Thanks!
August 22, 2016 at 5:45 pm #9893ehrichweissMemberHi, I’m using a couple of tools: Aspire and CNCWrapper because apparently Aspire doesn’t actually output code for the A axis(or if it does then I can’t find the correct post-processor). Have you made any progress on this? What post-processor are you using for the A axis? I’m willing to assist you in creating and testing a post-processor for this.
When I use CNCWrapper I get what looks like a single line across my display that doesn’t actually represent what my model looks like in the least so I have no clue if it is accurate at all. I’m certain it’s showing how the cuts are made, etc. along the line that the spindle will be cutting but without any form of representation, I can’t tell.
Any hints appreciated.

You mention that you found a post processor that works. Could you please share the details of that? I too have a TinyG with X-Carve and Aspire and am currently trying to get my 4th Axis working.

Not sure if you found a solution to your issue, but I also use a 4th axis on my CNC.
I’ve been developping Goko (http://www.goko.fr) and it supports rotary axis (including 3d representation).
There is also a wrapper modifier for GCode allowing to change X, Y or Z axis to A axis.Let me know if that’s what you need.
Thanks, -
