    Hi synthetos!

I’ve got a shapeoko kit which came with a grblshield v3 & arduino.

I have not performed the “shapeoko mod” (nipping the trace & getting 1/4 z-axis speed); i’m still running grbl v.8a (whatever it shipped with).  I’ve compensated by a) running slower feedrates (eh), b) writing a postprocessing script to adjust the speed before every z-move (terrible), or c) tolerating terrible z-axis precision (sad face).

Anyway, i noticed the grbl project has advanced to .9, which has support for individual axis speeds.  But it looked like some wiki documentation is out of date

    My questions:

Is grbl 0.9 supported for grblshield v3?
If so, do I need a patched version & where do I get it?
Should I do the shapeoko mod anyway, if I use separate axis speed settings in grbl .9?
If I do the shapeoko mod, do i need to make any other accomodations in software/hardware to account for the microstepping?

    Thanks much for any help

Thanks for your note. We are not yet supporting 0.9 as it hasn’t quite emerged from beta. When we do we’ll publish the specs on the wiki – which is now over at gitgub – see github/synthetos/grblshield.

You will not need a patched version – you can get 0.9 from the grbl website.

Technically you won’t need the shapeoko mod, but I’m not sure about the best way to handle the Z axis yet. I’ll be experimenting with this and write it up on the wiki.
